The faith-based film hits the big screen today and early ticket sales have already nearly doubled the original limited release.
Led by Christian actor Kevin Sorbo and a strong group of supporting players that includes fellow Believers Neal McDonough and Corbin Bernsen, the fifth iteration of this franchise is off to a good start even before its first showing in theaters. Driven by solid ticket pre-sales, Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist will now play nationwide for seven days, up from the originally planned run of just four days.
Based on the bestselling Left Behind book series, this film is set after the rapture in a world beset by chaos. The first film - Left Behind: The Movie - released in 2000 and starred Christian actor Kirk Cameron, who reprised his leading role for the second and third films before actor Nicolas Cage took over to lead the way in movie number four.
Sorbo, who first shot to fame on his 1990s TV series Hercules: The Legendary Journeys, now takes the baton and, as we previously reported, finds the release date of this end-times themed movie uncanny in light of chaotic climate of today's world, saying, "It's almost got a Revelation theme going to it in a way."
Left Behind: Rise of the Antichrist will play at theaters starting today and running through February 1st. You can purchase tickets to a venue in your area via this link to the website of distributor Fathom Events, and the trailer below will give a good sense of what to expect from the movie.
